Honoring the Life of Janie Strauss

Former School Board chair and representative was dedicated to family and students; Strauss’s life produced lasting good.

Jane Kamps (Janie) Strauss, a McLean resident since 1984, died at home on April 11, 2025 at the age of 78 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Strauss was a long time member of the Fairfax County School Board.

Former Supervisor Cathy Hudgins Dies

Effective advocate for affordable housing, transit and human services, Hudgins was first African American woman elected to Board of Supervisors.

Catherine M. Hudgins, who represented the Hunter Mill district on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors from 1999 to 2019, died on Saturday, May 24.
